Canadian op-ed: Parents shouldn’t be allowed to have as many children as they want

In an opinion piece over the weekend at CBC.com, the website of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, a young, self-proclaimed feminist named Kristen Pyszczyk posted a chilling piece so morally unhinged that it’s almost indistinguishable from satire. Titled “It shouldn’t be taboo to criticize parents for having too many kids,” the article focuses on HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines, an unapologetically Christian American couple (how sad that being an openly Christian couple in the entertainment field is now seen as something courageous in Western culture) who recently announced that they are pregnant with their fifth child. This is an unacceptable abuse of the impulse to procreate, according to Pyszczyk.

The pregnancy announcement drew social media criticism from outraged leftists who consider humanity a blight on Mother Gaia and resent the Gaineses for bringing yet another set of carbon footprints into the world. Here is Pyszczyk’s perspective on the joyful news: “Procreation is becoming a global public health concern, rather than a personal decision. So when people do irresponsible things like having five children, we absolutely need to be calling them out.”

Translation: people shouldn’t be able to choose how many children they have. It should be at least culturally verboten if not legally so.

Pyszczyk has the nerve to state that the Gaineses should have chosen adoption instead — funny how the left never urges that option on women considering abortion. Then she argues that would-be parents need to stop and think about the greater good:

“While having a child or five is a very personal choice, it’s also a choice that affects everyone who inhabits our planet. So while many people might find the backlash unwarranted, it’s actually a conversation we need to have in order to challenge our uncritical acceptance of the life-fulfillment-through-procreation story.”

Pyszczyk goes on to claim fear-mongering nonsense about the planet suffocating under overpopulation, and then encourages couples to “lighten the load, friends.”

How? Pyszczyk is glad you asked, because she has some suggestions. First, steer women toward “alternatives to motherhood,” with “options for a fulfilling life that don’t involve taking 20 years of their lives to care for offspring.” Pyszczyk is apparently unaware that studies show that women are actually not more fulfilled by forgoing motherhood for ruthless career advancement.

“[I]t’s crucial that we begin to present all people with alternatives to the traditional nuclear family,” she states, like a good little cultural Marxist.

Another suggestion for reducing the number of children people have — especially white Christian people like the Gaineses, rather than Muslim families that are far outbreeding them in the West — is to shame such parents rather than celebrate them. “Shame is a powerful tool for changing behaviour,” Pyszczyk writes. “It’s how we introduce new and existing social conventions.”

Put more bluntly, it’s how we ostracize and demonize those we want to control, like Christians who dare to decide for themselves what size family they want.

For those who would then be concerned about a declining birthrate, Pyszczyk strangely argues that it can be mitigated by importing “a steady supply of smart and talented immigrants” from the countries President Trump has reportedly described as “shitholes.” Yes, because that’s worked so well for Europe.

After condemning the Gaines for hastening our species’ headlong rush to self-extinction, Pyszczyk has the gall to close by “wishing Chip and Joanna the best!” Sorry, Ms. Pyszczyk, but putting a smiley face on your hateful anti-humanity doesn’t make you any less totalitarian.
